Welcome to the Ancient British Church

The Ancient British Church is committed to the proclamation of Jesus Christ throughout the British Isles, faithfully confessing the ancient Christian faith revealed in Holy Scripture.

For this reason, the Ancient British Church has adopted the Confession and Doctrinal Standards of the Confessional Lutheran Church as a pure and faithful expression of that biblical and apostolic faith. These standards provide the doctrinal foundation for its teaching, worship and mission.

The Ancient British Church is also committed to continuing and renewing the Christian heritage of Britain and Ireland from before the establishment of the later Roman mission. It therefore continues its work as a missional arm of the Confessional Lutheran Church, serving the proclamation of the Gospel and the planting and strengthening of worshipping communities.

As part of this commitment, the Confessional Lutheran Church has received ancient British and Celtic rites, prayers and forms into its optional patterns of worship, where these may be used in harmony with Holy Scripture and the Church’s confession.

We believe that the best way to honour the Christian traditions of the past is not merely to preserve them as historical artefacts, but to place them at the service of the Gospel within living communities of faith—where Christ is proclaimed, the Sacraments are administered, and Christians gather for prayer, worship and witness.

Looking to the future, the Ancient British Church will serve people online through Christian teaching, prayer, pastoral support and opportunities for worship and fellowship. It will seek to reach people across Britain and Ireland with the Gospel, confess the historic Christian faith faithfully, and renew the ancient Christian heritage of these islands in the living service of Christ and his Church.
